Together in IVF: Ferty9 Helps Couple Conceive, Overcoming Genetic Condition

Recognising and Understanding Causes of Infertility is the first step towards turning Dreams of Parenthood into Reality

Hyderabad, July 25, 2024: For 34-year old Mahesh (name changed) and 30-year old Sunitha (name changed), the dream of starting a family seemed increasingly out of reach as they faced negative pregnancy tests month on month. In a story that would resonate with many couples who face similar issues, the stress took an emotional toll on their relationship, turning a time of joy and anticipation into one of tension and disappointment.

Background and Challenges

After much deliberation, they too decided to seek professional help. At Ferty9 Fertility Center, they not only received expert medical care but also found the most required support and understanding. After doing some tests, Sunitha’s reports came out to be normal, but Mahesh’s semen analysis revealed severe oligozoospermia (low sperm count) and poor sperm motility. Further tests identified a genetic condition, Y-chromosome microdeletion, as the underlying cause of his infertility.

Personalized Treatment Approach

Instead of shying away from the problem, Mahesh decided to undertake treatment under Dr. S. Shashant, Andrologist, Ferty9 Fertility Center, who developed a personalized treatment plan for him. This plan included lifestyle modifications, medical therapy, and ICSI (Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection) technique which involves injecting live sperm into a female's eggs in a laboratory. He was also advised to take a balanced diet, engage in regular exercise, reduce stress through mindfulness, and avoid excessive alcohol consumption. He was also given medication to improve his hormone levels and sperm quality.

Unfortunately, despite the initial medical treatment, Mahesh's sperm count remained low, that raised the need for Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA) which meant retrieving the sperm directly from his testicles. At the same time, Sunitha underwent ovarian stimulation, where her eggs were retrieved and fertilized with Mahesh's sperm using the ICSI technique. Two healthy blastocyst embryos were then transferred to Saritha's uterus, and the remaining viable embryos were frozen for future use.

Successful Outcome and Key Takeaways

Almost 2 weeks after the embryo transfer, Sunitha took a pregnancy test that finally showed a positive result. The couple's joy knew no bounds. Nine months later, Mahesh and Sunitha welcomed a healthy baby into their lives, which proves to be a testament to their determination and the advanced technologies that made their dream possible.

"This case shows how important early diagnosis and personalized treatment plans are for couples dealing with infertility. Advances in reproductive medicine, like ICSI, can help overcome even severe infertility challenges. Our goal is to provide hope and support to those on their journey to parenthood," said Dr. S. Shashant, Andrologist, Ferty9 Fertility Center

Their journey highlights the challenges of a couple and the emotional ups and downs they go through while dealing with male infertility. Mahesh and Sunitha are now passionate advocates for raising awareness about male infertility, and they hope that by sharing their story, they can break the stigma and encourage other couples to seek the help they need. At Ferty9, our promise is to be together with you throughout your journey to overcome infertility challenges and achieve the dream of parenthood.
